It’s disheartening to see media coverage of politicos punching each other verbally while using human slaughter as fodder for their own gain.

This week a group of reporters spoke with John McCain in the hallway of the Senate building, where McCain claimed President Obama was “directly responsible” for the terror attack in Orlando, according to the Washington Post.

But what wasn’t reported is that McCain received more than $7.7 million in contributions from the National Rifle Association (NRA): more than any other elected representative in Washington.

Yet McCain blames Obama for the Orlando bloodbath enacted by a lone gunman who used weapons that should never be available to ordinary muggles; and most Americans agree.

In fact, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, a former commander of US and international forces in Afghanistan, wrote in today’s New York Times that all of us, particularly “our leaders,” should “start by doing more to keep guns out of the hands of those who cannot be trusted to handle them responsibly.”

Let’s be clear: Senator McCain was elected to represent the citizens of the state of Arizona, not the interests of the NRA. The NRA’s membership includes only 5 percent of American gun-owners, so don’t be misled to believe that your and my neighbors support the NRA.

The NRA is supported by those who stand to gain from the creation, manufacture, sale and use of firearms. Just follow the money: Smith & Wesson, Berreta, Browning, Remington…ring a bell?

MidwayUSA, which sells ammunition–high-capacity ammunition magazines—is the NRA’s top corporate benefactor, according to the Huffington Post.

In short, McCain accepts money from the same folks who provided the assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines that have killed the innocent and unarmed.

In 2011 he unloaded his Glock on bystanders attending a talk in Tucson by one of McCain’s colleagues. Six people died (including a 9-year-old), 19 were wounded, and Representative Gabrielle Giffords got a bullet through her brain.
